COWPENS' Tenth Commanding Officer

Captain Holly Graf grew up in Simsbury, CT and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1985 where she received a Bachelor of Science degree.

Her assignments at sea included Auxiliaries Officer and First Division Officer in USS PUGET SOUND (AD 38), Weapons Officer in USS AINSWORTH (FFT 1090), Combat Systems Officer in COMDESRON THIRTEEN, Executive Officer in USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG 54), Commanding Officer in USS WINSTON S CHURCHILL, and assistant Operations Officer in CARL VINSON Strike Group. During her commander command tour, USS WINSTON S CHURCHILL conducted a surge deployment as part of the THEODORE ROOSEVELT Strike Group and participated in the opening strikes of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

Ashore, Captain Graf served as an instructor at Villanova University NROTC, an action officer in the Precision Engagement Assessment Division in the Joint Staff J8 Directorate, an analyst in OPNAV N81 Campaign Analysis (N816), and Executive Assistant for the Director, Assessment Division (N81). Captain Graf holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and a Masters in Civil Engineering from Villanova University.

Captain Graf became the 10th Commanding Officer of USS COWPENS on 20 March 2008.

Personal awards include a Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and two Meritorious Service Medals.

Captain Graf was relieved of command in January 2010.
